Fri 26 Sep 2008 - Exodus Nuclear Records Goes Online With The Rezidents Evil Riddim [Rebelmix]

Kingston, Jamaica

Exodus Nuclear Records, in conjunction with Heart to Art Music, recently released the Rezidents Evil riddim album (popularly known as Resident Evil) digitally via the Rebelmix distribution network. Rezidents Evil is now available online through major e-tailers including the Apple iTunes Store, Amazon MP3, eMusic, and Rhapsody. Physical copies of the album are also available through CD Baby (www.cdbaby.com) and Ernie B’s Reggae (www.ebreggae.com).

Rezidents Evil has been making a strong impact on the Jamaican music scene since the first half of 2008, thanks largely to contributions from Portmore Empire artists. Songs such as Vybz Kartel’s “Pop It Off”, Shawn Storm’s “Undress”, Black Ryno’s “People Biz”, and Deva Bratt’s “Auto Tune” have garnered a large following in the dancehall. The popularity of the aforementioned songs coupled with the infectious Rezidents Evil beat compelled additional top flight artistes to voice on the riddim- hence, the completed album features more recent recordings such as “Jah Deliver Me” from Anthony B, “Jah Makes Me Happy” from Teflon and “Don’t Trouble Jah Jah Children” from Fantan Mojah.

Father Romie, the man behind Exodus Nuclear Records, is also a strong advocate for giving less heralded artistes a chance to propel their career upward, by providing them with opportunities to record alongside dancehall superstars such as Kartel and Anthony B. As a result, the Rezidents Evil project features some less familiar but ultra-talented artists including Mitch, Paashot, Nando, and Oxxygen (who delivers the title track “Resident Evil”), whose performances arguably upstage their more illustrious peers.

Father Romie explains the reason for the subtle name change from “Resident Evil”, the name bestowed on the riddim by the artists and endorsed by the fans, to Rezidents Evil, “Once I learned that there was a game called Resident Evil, I changed the riddim’s name to Rezidents Evil to avoid any confusion and possible trademark infringement issues.” As the “Evil” continues to strike fear into the hearts of other “riddim-builders” and to build a large following in the dancehall, Father Romie is strongly confident that his next project, Ghetto Gospel, due for release in early October, will dominate the dancehall for the remainder of 2008. As Father Romie explains jokingly, “Only the Gospel can stomp out the Evil.”
